We really feel like we have salary benchmarking which has been produced objectively and independently. We have a framework to work with going forward.
Project brief
We were approached by The Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons and asked to carry out a Job Evaluation and Salary Review for their employees, with the intention of developing a more transparent approach to their classification and remuneration of roles within the organisation.
The goal was to work with the employees to establish an up-to-date job description, benchmark each role in the structure both internally and externally, and ensure that going forward The Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons are able to underpin all remuneration decisions with reference to a set of benchmarked data and in a fair and transparent way.
Client feedback
“We didn’t have a structure for salaries in the past, partly because of the uniqueness of our work. If anything, we benchmarked against the civil service, but we wanted something more relevant and robust. Business Clan were recommended to us.
The job evaluation questionnaire assessing each role individually was useful. The output was that we have job specifications for each role in place now, which is not only useful for the people in those roles, but will also support future recruitment. A case in point is that we have a communications role recently become available and I have the job spec from Dolina ready. It has a very practical use. We have a complete library of job roles.
On the salary benchmarking side of the project, it was challenging to find suitable organisations to benchmark against. The Business Clan team did well. They clearly explained the parameters they would use and how they would source the data. The final output gave us remuneration levels we are comfortable with. We really feel like we have ticked the box and have salary benchmarking which has been produced objectively and independently. We have a framework to work with going forward. It has been successful on key elements. We also now have an internal appeals process which we modelled on what we went through with the Business Clan HR team – a biproduct of the process.
Working with Dolina and Naomi was great. They were good to work with. We had a mix of face to face and Zoom meetings both of which worked well. Some of our board members have an HR background and the feedback from them was positive. They commented on how professional the reporting was. They were generally good all-round. I would certainly recommend them.”
