Delia held us back from getting carried away and made us think about the where, when, how and what. We got a robust five-year plan out of the workshop.
Nick and Sophie were referred to us by our longstanding client, Laura at Stitchmith, as they were looking to road map a way forward to achieve their business goals around enhancing employee retention in the short term and future proofing their business for a workable and profitable exit strategy in the long term.
“Sophie and I had ideas for our long-term plan, but Delia was very good at getting us to express what we really wanted to get out of it. She was particularly good at mediating between not just bickering long term business owners, but also a husband-and-wife team! She held us back from getting carried away and made us think about the where, when, how and what. Ultimately, we got a pretty robust five-year plan out of the workshop.
It was really, really good to have Delia as a sounding board. She would know when to say stop there, you’ve missed a key part. She is brilliantly calm and business-like. She put us on the straight and narrow. It was like having a non-exec in the room.
It was great also having Naomi in the room as her experience running a recruitment firm and dealing with clients and agencies meant she knew how to cut through the crap. She got where we were coming from and gave us useful anecdotal advice.
Delia showed us how to build a financial business model with variables based on assumptions and key overheads and ratios. She showed us what is possible and took us through how to build a simple model from scratch. We decided to build it ourselves and then we asked Delia to review it. She made some useful suggestions about how to pull out additional variables rather than hard coding them into the model, and how we can build on it as our business grows.
After the workshop, we were able to present back to our team with a clear structure and vision in place. It felt like we were selling a product rather than just an ideal.
I feel like we are set now for the next couple of years. When we are ready to plan for our exit and offer our staff equity, then we’ll be back to Business Clan to work out the mechanics of the next steps.”
