The Story Begins…
2014 MarchThe idea for Business Clan came about when Delia realised there was a gap in the market to help businesses, particularly business owners and managers, who don’t have the time or specialist skills to do everything themselves.
The solution? Providing a one-stop shop for trusted business advice and professional services.
She realised she needed a team of specialists with multiple skill sets, so she reached out to her network and local businesses to sound out her idea and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response. One of these people was Nicolle and she soon came on board as the co-director to head up our business development.

Unexpected Success!
2016 AugDelia and Nicolle were thrilled to be nominated for FSB’s Best New Business. They researched the list of the other nominees —eight in total—and knew they were up against some serious competition, so they wrote off bringing home the trophy themselves and settled in to enjoy the evening.
When it was time to announce the winners, the host noted that the judges had said this was “an outstanding story of innovation, vision and passion”… and the winner was BUSINESS CLAN!!!!
The evening was a blur of congratulations, texts, tweets, photos, hugs, wine and celebrations!
Proud of the team’s success, they were confident many more awards were to come! And we were right, with us going on to win Merton’s Best New Business a month later!

Finding a Home
2017 MarchSince Delia founded Business Clan in 2014, we have worked flexibly from home, cafes and work hubs. Fellow businesses have kindly hosted us in our local community for larger meetings and events. But when Delia spotted that one of the offices in the building from which she ran her previous company was available, we knew it was the right place for Business Clan.

Winners…One Again!
2018 MayWe were thrilled to win Employer of the Year at the FSB London area awards, which meant that we went through to the National Finals. With 11 categories in all and winners from 12 geographical areas of the UK represented in each, there were hundreds of people gathered to celebrate each others’ success.
Nicolle had been feeling quietly confident in the afternoon as she knew we had put together a strong application, but as Jon started to read out the 12 nominees and some of their achievements her heart started to sink. There was no way we could win against these bigger businesses with their big-name clients and mentions in the national newspapers. Which is why when the winner was called, she jumped out of her seat so quickly.

Building presence in SW London
2019 JuneOrganised by Kingston Chamber of Commerce, we hosted the Silent Stage at the Kingston Expo where our specialists delivered a series of 30-minute seminars from across our range of services.
It was met with positive reviews and new business. Sometimes it is all about getting the word out!
A few months later, we exhibited at the Chessington Expo 6th Nov 2019 where held a social media LinkedIn hands-on workshop to generate awareness, leads and increase sales. We offered detailed step-by step tutorials for individuals who were new to technology and not very tech-savvy.
Both Expos offered the team the opportunity to network and build relationships, to engage and shape a successful local business community, as well as learn at the seminars across the day.

Additionally, this has helped them to cultivate an engaged community which encourages them to branch off, supporting one another and building a robust foundation for mutual growth and success.

Surviving Covid by Being Resilient
2021 MayLooking back, it seems that adjusting to life during COVID-19 was a challenge for everyone. The pandemic forced us to think on our feet business-wise, but maintaining personal relationships became that much more difficult. Despite our previous flexibility with remote work, Business Clan was keen to return to the office.
Lockdown and its aftermath were tough times for many companies. Our team’s determination saw us through these challenging times and we feel extremely fortunate and grateful to have come through it.

Helping Local Businesses to Find their Voice
2022 OctoberWe facilitate meet ups for businesses to share business issues with local MPs such as Stephen Hammond and local Lib Dem Councillor, Paul Kohler, who both came in to discuss local business issues. This approach has improved transparency between businesses and government bodies, thanks to the personal connections established. As a result, we’ve seen businesses sharing their voice with confidence, leading to more informed and effective solutions.

Charlie’s Story
June 2023In June 2023 Charlie took his learnings from a university module and shared his knowledge internally. He hosted a sustainability talk that inspired our team to think about how sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) impacts our business, especially at a SME level. This led to us developing a Sustainability Business Plan which was the impetus we needed to act and to become a market- leader in championing continuous sustainable initiatives.
As a result of one of these initiatives, we have now fully transitioned to LED lighting, reducing energy use, costs, and increasing bulb lifespan.
